South Korea can no longer be called a drug-free nation. Drugs are spreading through clubs and everyday life, and anyone can be exposed.
Actors Lee Young-ae and Kim Young-kwang are shining a light on this reality through KBS2's new drama A Good Day for Eunsoo. Inspired by a real case of a housewife caught delivering drugs, the story explores temptation, greed, and ultimately, the courage to resist.
A Drama Rooted in Reality
At the production presentation held in Seoul on September 16, Lee Young-ae emphasized the urgency of the issue. "Drugs are no longer hidden crimes. They are happening everywhere in our society," she said. "Through this drama, we want to raise questions and search for solutions together."
Lee plays Kang Eunsoo, a part-time cashier struggling to support her terminally ill husband and a dropout daughter. One day, she stumbles upon a bag of drugs, pushing her into a dangerous partnership. "As someone who is also a mother and a housewife, I was fascinated by how Eunsoo's everyday life suddenly collides with crime," Lee explained.
Complex Characters and Dark Temptations
Kim Young-kwang takes on the role of Lee Kyung, a man leading a double life: an art teacher by day and a drug supplier at a nightclub by night. "I often wondered whether he was a villain or a good guy," Kim admitted. "In the end, I chose to believe in his redeeming side."
Director Song Hyun-wook noted, "Kim has the ability to move seamlessly between romance and crime genres, making him perfect for this dual role."
Action, Tension, and Human Conflict
The drama promises high-paced action as Eunsoo and Lee Kyung clash with a determined police officer, played by Park Yong-woo. Lee also took on physical challenges, preparing rigorously for chase and fight scenes. "I trained to appear strong on screen," she said.
The relationship between Eunsoo and Lee Kyung is another emotional core. As Lee Kyung witnesses Eunsoo's resilience and love for her family, his hardened exterior begins to soften.
A Message Beyond Entertainment
A Good Day for Eunsoo positions itself as more than just crime entertainment. It reflects pressing social concerns and asks what choices ordinary people make when faced with extraordinary temptations.
Lee Young-ae sees competition with contemporaries like Go Hyun-jung (Mantis) and Jun Ji-hyun (Polaris) as healthy motivation. "I hope we continue to walk this path together, giving each other strength," she said with a smile.
A Good Day for Eunsoo premieres on September 20.
