Singer and musical actor Lee Hong-gi is set to take on a new theatrical challenge, returning to the stage with a role that blends comedy, music, and disguise.
First Korean Production of Sugar
On September 23, FNC Entertainment announced that Lee Hong-gi has been cast in the musical Sugar, which will premiere in Korea this December. He will play Joe, a saxophonist who adopts the persona of "Josephine" to escape a life-threatening situation after witnessing a murder.
Based on the 1959 classic film Some Like It Hot, the musical follows two jazz musicians who join an all-female band while hiding from gangsters. Lee's role demands both humor and emotional depth, showcasing the duality of a man forced into disguise while navigating unexpected challenges.
Proven Experience in Musicals
Lee has built an impressive résumé with roles in productions such as The Days, I Loved You, Return: The Promise of the Day, Jack the Ripper, and Mata Hari. Known for his strong vocals and versatile acting, he has earned recognition as one of the most reliable crossover performers in the K-pop and musical theater world.
FNC commented, "Through Sugar, Lee Hong-gi will display an even broader acting spectrum and deliver powerful vocals that will captivate audiences."
Performance Schedule
Sugar will run from December 12, 2025, to February 22, 2026, at the KEPCO Art Center Grand Theater in Seoul, promising a lively and engaging stage adaptation of the beloved Hollywood classic.
With this casting, Lee Hong-gi continues to solidify his place as a standout figure in Korea's musical theater scene.
