Actor Byeon Woo-seok is stepping up to support Korea's independent film scene, personally funding a new project for emerging creators.
In partnership with the Seoul Independent Film Festival (SIFF), he is launching SIFF X Byeon Woo-seok: Shorts On 2025, an open call running from November 10 to 24.
The theme is "love." Up to three short narrative films will be selected, with a total of 30 million KRW in production grants — fully donated by Byeon Woo-seok — distributed among the winners.
Final selections will be announced during the 51st SIFF after both document review and interviews. Eligibility is open to storytellers who can complete their films by August next year.
Additional backing comes from his agency, VARO Entertainment, which will provide expert mentorship. The SIFF team will further support distribution, festival screenings, and executive production guidance.
The initiative marks a meaningful first step in nurturing Korea's creative ecosystem. Festival organizers noted, "This project carries special significance in building the foundation of future Korean cinema."
Meanwhile, Byeon Woo-seok is active on screen with MBC's weekend drama 21st Century Royal Consort and the upcoming Netflix series Solo Leveling.
