Korean cinema is set to debut its first AI-powered feature this fall.
Distributor CGV announced on September 24 that The Middle Realm (directed by Kang Yoon-seok) will hit theaters on October 15, alongside the release of its main trailer.
The preview opens with a massive fire pillar crashing down from the sky, engulfing Seoul's Gwanghwamun. Soon, mysterious creatures emerge in the streets, creating chaos. Viewers are introduced to the leads: Byun Yo-han (as Jang Won), Yang Se-jong (as Jae Beom), Lim Hyung-jun (as Seok Tae), Kim Kang-woo (as Min Young), and Bang Hyo-rin (as Seol Ah).
The climax features a chilling line: "This is the end. The king of the Grim Reapers is coming." The teaser stirs curiosity about the king's identity and purpose.
The Middle Realm is positioned as a high-octane chase action blockbuster. It follows those trapped between life and death as they face off against Grim Reapers intent on erasing their souls.
Director Kang Yoon-seok, known for The Outlaws (which drew 10 million viewers) and Disney+ hits Big Bet and Fine: Country Bumpkins, makes his first foray into AI-powered filmmaking with this project.
The Middle Realm opens nationwide on October 15.
