Director Park Chan-wook's latest film No Choice opened to 331,525 viewers on its first day, securing the top spot at the Korean box office.
Record-Breaking Opening for Park Chan-wook
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing system, No Choice achieved the highest opening score of Park's career. It surpassed the debut day records of his previous hits, The Handmaiden (290,000 viewers) and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance (270,000 viewers). The film stars Lee Byung-hun and Son Ye-jin and tells the story of a man who, after being laid off, prepares for a battle to protect his family and home while seeking reemployment.
Competition at the Box Office
On the same day, Chainsaw Man the Movie: Reze Arc directed by Tatsuya Yoshihara ranked second with 108,726 viewers. Yeon Sang-ho's Face secured third place with 25,219 admissions, pushing its cumulative audience to over 802,000 as it steadily approaches the one-million mark.
International Spotlight
No Choice has also been selected as South Korea's official entry for the Best International Feature Film category at next year's Academy Awards, heightening both domestic and international anticipation.
