Actors Kim Woo-bin and Suzy are reuniting on screen nearly a decade after Uncontrollably Fond. This time, they step into the whimsical world of a magical romantic comedy.
A Genie Meets a Psychopath
Netflix's upcoming series Make a Wish, Genie (written by Kim Eun-sook, directed by Ahn Gil-ho) tells the story of a lamp genie who awakens after a thousand years and meets a new master with no emotions. Kim Woo-bin plays Genie, a quirky and powerful spirit who blends humor, mystery, and vulnerability. Suzy stars as Ga-young, a cold yet principled woman often described as a "psychopath without crime," who becomes Genie's master and dominates their love-hate dynamic.
Fresh Chemistry After Uncontrollably Fond
Kim Woo-bin and Suzy last worked together in 2016 as a top star and documentary PD. Nine years later, they reunite as Genie and his master. Both expressed joy over rekindling their on-screen partnership. Suzy remarked, "I didn't even realize nine years had passed. It feels new, yet our chemistry is even better this time." Kim Woo-bin added, "Working with Suzy always makes me happy. It felt like no time had passed at all."
Creative Team and Performances
This marks Kim Woo-bin's third collaboration with star writer Kim Eun-sook, known for The Heirs and A Gentleman's Dignity. He described Genie as "a character full of contrasts—strong yet clumsy, scary yet laughable." Suzy also prepared a special gift for fans, contributing to the OST with a warm, fairytale-like track.
Supporting cast members include Ahn Eun-jin, Noh Sang-hyun, Ko Kyu-pil, and Lee Joo-young. At the production press conference in Seoul, the actors teased a story filled with humor, fantasy, and romance, likening it to "a holiday buffet" for viewers.
Controversy and Clarification
Ahead of its release, some controversy arose over Genie referring to himself as "Iblis," a figure associated with evil in Islamic tradition. Addressing concerns, Kim Woo-bin urged, "Please watch until the end. The misunderstanding will be resolved within the story."
Release Date
Make a Wish, Genie is set to premiere globally on Netflix on October 3, coinciding with Korea's Chuseok holiday. The cast expressed hopes that families would enjoy the series together over the festive season.
