A new government-backed committee dedicated to the global expansion of K-culture has officially launched in Korea.
On October 1, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced the inauguration of the Presidential Committee on Pop Culture Exchange. The body will be co-chaired by Minister Choi Hwi-young and singer-producer J.Y. Park.
A Public-Private Partnership for K-Culture
The committee is a presidential advisory body aimed at establishing a collaborative framework between the public and private sectors to ensure the continued global growth of Korean pop culture.
A total of 26 civilian members have been appointed, divided into seven sectors: popular music, gaming, webtoons & animation, film & video, lifestyle, investment, and policy.
In the music division, key figures include SM Entertainment CEO Jang Cheol-hyuk, HYBE CEO Lee Jae-sang, YG Entertainment CEO Yang Min-suk, and JYP Entertainment CEO Jung Wook.
Broader Cultural Advisory Council
Alongside this, the Ministry will also operate the Cultural Arts Policy Advisory Committee, which brings together about 90 experts across nine fields including theater & musicals, classical music & traditional arts, dance, literature, fine arts, publishing, and web novels.
Ambition for Global Cultural Leadership
Minister Choi emphasized, "The Pop Culture Exchange Committee and the Cultural Arts Policy Advisory Committee are the twin wings that will drive Korea toward achieving a 300 trillion won K-culture industry and becoming a true cultural powerhouse."
He added, "Through these committees, we will ensure inclusive communication and policy advice across all cultural and artistic fields without leaving any sector behind."
