"Boss" Tops Box Office Reservations Ahead of Release
by. ymchoi

Comedy-action film Boss (directed by Ra Hee-chan) is already sparking a box office buzz, ranking No.1 in advance ticket sales just a day before release.

According to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing system, as of 8 p.m. on October 2, Boss recorded a reservation rate of 20.6%, with 129,492 tickets sold in advance. It surpassed Park Chan-wook's No Choice (19.5%), signaling strong family-friendly appeal for the Chuseok holiday.

Boss puts a playful twist on the gangster genre. The story follows gang members who desperately try to avoid becoming the next boss after the sudden death of their leader, Da-soo (played by Lee Sung-min). Instead of battling for power, they comically dodge responsibility while chasing their own dreams.

Jo Woo-jin plays Sun-tae, a Chinese restaurant chef, while Jung Kyung-ho takes on the role of Kang-pyo, and Park Ji-hwan portrays Pan-ho. Together, the trio injects humor and humanity into a storyline usually defined by violence and betrayal.

The film premiered last month at the 30th Busan International Film Festival, earning praise for its lighthearted and wholesome take on the mobster narrative.

Boss opens nationwide on October 3, promising a comedic ride for audiences of all ages this holiday season.
