BTS leader RM opened up about his thoughts on marriage, family, and individuality during a recent live broadcast.
On October 5, RM went live on global fan platform Weverse, greeting fans with, "How have you been? I turned this on because I missed you." He shared updates on his current work, mentioning that he's in the middle of producing new music. He also talked about books and anime he's been enjoying lately, and even revealed he's been running and lifting weights to lose weight.
The conversation soon turned introspective. "Now that I'm in my thirties, I realize raising a child and building a family is an incredible task," he said, reflecting on marriage and parenthood.
He continued, "If I meet the right person at the right time, maybe I'll get married someday. But I could also live alone — there's no single answer to that."
RM also addressed the social pressure surrounding marriage and childbirth. "Especially for women, society often imposes expectations about having children or settling down," he said. "But everyone should live their life their own way."
He added with a laugh, "Even raising myself is hard enough — let alone a new life. Kids don't always turn out the way you want. Thinking about how much trouble I gave my parents makes me understand how difficult it must be."
RM went on to say, "I think those born in the 1990s are the first generation in Korea for whom marriage truly became an option, not an obligation. Everyone should just make their own choices."
Encouraging fans to take care of both body and mind, he said, "Two things that never lie are reading and exercising. They always do you good."
Looking ahead, RM revealed his next big project: "I'm preparing for an exhibition in San Francisco next year. It'll take about a year of preparation, and I'm planning a tour as well."
RM's upcoming exhibition, RM x SFMOMA, will be held at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art from October 2026 to February 2027, where he will participate directly as a curator.
