Long-running MBC variety show The King of Mask Singer is taking a break for a major revamp — with plans to return in the second half of 2026 as a seasonal format.
On October 23, MBC announced, "The King of Mask Singer will conclude its broadcasts with the episodes filmed through December, after which the show will enter a brief hiatus. It will come back next year in a new seasonal format reflecting global entertainment trends."
From Weekly Classic to Global Format
The production team explained, "We're not ending the show — we're taking a break to return with upgraded stages and more engaging competition formats through a seasonal approach."
First aired in April 2015, The King of Mask Singer features contestants performing while hiding their identities behind masks, judged purely by their vocals. Over the past decade, it has become one of MBC's signature weekend programs.
A Global Phenomenon
The show made history as the first Korean variety format to be sold to over 50 countries. It continues to enjoy global popularity, with localized versions airing as seasonal series worldwide.
