Entrepreneur and TV personality Baek Jong-won is making his return to terrestrial television through Chef of the Antarctic.
MBC announced that the long-awaited reality program, which has been in production for over a year, will premiere on November 17.
Chef of the Antarctic follows professional chefs as they travel to Antarctica's King Sejong Station to prepare warm, comforting meals for the research crew stationed there. Originally scheduled to air in April, the show was delayed amid speculation surrounding Baek's temporary hiatus from broadcasting.
The delay coincided with controversies involving The Born Korea, Baek's restaurant company, which faced questions about food quality and safety. Filming for the show, however, reportedly took place before the issues surfaced, with Baek and the cast departing for Antarctica last November.
Director Hwang Soon-kyu explained, "Viewers will witness the chefs' heartfelt challenge to create 'a meal of encouragement' using limited ingredients, while also exploring the intersection of diverse food cultures."
Meanwhile, Baek Jong-won's other projects are also on the way — Black Chef 2 will be released on Netflix in December, and The Genius Baek Boss 3 is slated to air on tvN later this year.
