Director Lee Hwan's Project Y has been recognized on the global stage, earning the top prize in competition at the 10th London Asian Film Festival, which concluded on November 2 (KST).
The festival showcases innovative works from across Asia. This year, 45 films were screened, with only eight advancing to the competition section. The jury praised Project Y for "boldly expanding the horizons of neo-noir cinema" and "demonstrating remarkable directorial vision."
Director Lee expressed his gratitude, saying, "After screenings in Toronto, Busan, and Hawaii, I'm honored to have Project Y featured and awarded in London as well." He added, "I hope more audiences experience this film in theaters and interpret it through their own perspectives."
A gripping crime noir, Project Y follows a group of women who, having nothing but each other, attempt to escape their grim reality by stealing black money and gold bars. The film features a powerhouse ensemble including Han So-hee, Jeon Jong-seo, Kim Shin-rok, Jung Young-joo, Lee Jae-kyun, YooA, and Kim Sung-cheol.
Project Y is set to be released in Korea soon.
