Korean film The Owners of the World (directed by Yoon Ga-eun) continues its remarkable international journey, officially entering the competition lineup at the Nantes Three Continents Festival, the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival, and the Red Sea International Film Festival.
Triple nomination across continents
On November 6, the production confirmed that the film had been invited to compete at the 47th Nantes Three Continents Festival, the 20th Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival, and the 5th Red Sea International Film Festival. It has been nominated for five major awards, including the Golden Balloon (Grand Prize), Silver Balloon (Best Film), Youth Jury Award, Audience Award, and Special Mention.
Global spotlight and critical acclaim
The Nantes Three Continents Festival, held in France, celebrates films from Asia, Latin America, and Africa—focusing on artistry and originality. The festival has previously showcased early works of renowned filmmakers such as Ryusuke Hamaguchi, Hirokazu Kore-eda, Jia Zhangke, Hong Sangsoo, and Yoon Dan-bi.
Deputy director Aïcha Rahim praised the film, saying, "The Owners of the World moved us deeply with its intimate gaze. Yoon Ga-eun captures the emotional worlds of children and adolescents with extraordinary delicacy." She added, "Each character reflects, reacts, and resists the uncertainties surrounding them. We believe this film will resonate globally and inspire audiences through the director's vision."

First Korean entry in two festivals
The film also marks the first Korean-directed entry in both the Indonesian Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival and the Saudi Arabian Red Sea International Film Festival.
Story of self-discovery and defiance
The Owners of the World follows 18-year-old high schooler Joo-in (played by Seo Subin), who refuses to sign a school-wide petition and begins receiving mysterious notes. The film explores her journey toward becoming the "owner" of her own world, portraying the struggles and awakenings of youth through Yoon's tender yet penetrating lens.
Continuing its winning streak
Already a critical favorite, the film was previously invited to the Toronto International Film Festival's Platform section and won both the Jury and Audience Awards at the Pingyao International Film Festival, along with the FIPRESCI Award at the Warsaw International Film Festival.
As of November 6, the film is nearing 80,000 domestic admissions, with more than 5,000 additional reservations confirmed—proof that its emotional resonance continues to grow both at home and abroad.
