Walt Disney Company Korea has confirmed that The Grand Prince's Wife 21 will premiere globally on Disney+ in the first half of 2026.
The drama unfolds in an alternate modern era ruled by a constitutional monarchy, following the unlikely bond between a chaebol-born commoner woman and a prince with nothing to his name despite royal blood.
IU takes on the role of Sung Hee-ju, a powerful business leader raised in a conglomerate family. Trapped by class limitations, she enters a contract marriage that changes the trajectory of her life.
Byeon Woo-seok plays Prince Ian Lee Wan, the quiet and restrained second son of the royal family—forced to hide his fiery heart in a position that demands silence and invisibility.
The pairing has generated major buzz since pre-production. IU recently won Best Actress at the 4th Blue Dragon Series Awards for You Have Been Deceived, while Byeon Woo-seok solidified his status as a breakout global star with his performance in Lovely Runner.
Director Park Joon-hwa, known for Alchemy of Souls, leads the project with his signature delicate touch. The script is penned by Yoo Ah-in, an award-winning writer from the MBC Drama Script Competition.
The Grand Prince's Wife 21 will air as an MBC Friday–Saturday drama and will also stream on Disney+ for global audiences.
