AKMU is officially parting ways with YG Entertainment after 12 years.
YG Entertainment shared that about six months ago, Yang Hyun-suk, along with AKMU's Lee Chan-hyuk and Lee Su-hyun, met for dinner to discuss their long journey together, starting from K-pop Star Season 2 in 2012, as well as the duo's current concerns.
According to the agency, AKMU's biggest question was whether to continue with the company they had worked with for over a decade or to pursue independence for a new challenge.
During the meeting, Yang Hyun-suk reportedly encouraged the siblings, saying that experiencing music activities in a new environment outside of YG could be a meaningful opportunity.
Reflecting on their time together, YG described the past 12 years as a privilege, watching the brother-sister duo grow step by step from passionate young musicians into one of Korea's most beloved acts.
AKMU expressed their gratitude in return. The members delivered handwritten letters to Yang Hyun-suk and offered a deep bow to show their appreciation.
YG concluded by promising full support for AKMU's next chapter, asking fans to continue sending warm interest and encouragement as the duo embarks on a new artistic journey.
