Netflix's animated film KPop Demon Hunters has officially met the eligibility requirements for the Academy Awards, raising anticipation about whether it can secure an Oscar nomination.
On November 21 (local time), the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) revealed the list of eligible films for Best Animated Feature at the 98th Academy Awards. A total of 35 titles were submitted for consideration.
KPop Demon Hunters made the list alongside Disney's Elio and Zootopia 2, as well as Japanese releases Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle and Chainsaw Man: Reze.
The film secured eligibility through limited theatrical screenings held in June across New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. However, it did not qualify for the BAFTA Awards.
Industry outlets suggest the film has strong potential in both Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song categories. Official Oscar nominations will be announced on January 22.
The 98th Academy Awards will take place on March 15 next year in Los Angeles.
