Actor Choi Jung-won, formerly of UN, has once again cleared allegations of being an adulterous partner.
On the 26th, Choi released the Seoul Family Court's ruling. He had been accused in 2023 by a man identified as A, who claimed Choi was involved with his wife. The case escalated into a damages lawsuit worth over 100 million KRW.
In the first trial, the court dismissed A's claim, ruling that Choi could not be held responsible for the breakdown of the couple's marriage. It also ordered A to bear all litigation costs.
Choi stated that the ruling reaffirmed he was not an adulterer: "After extensive deliberation, the court did not accept the accusations. The judgment confirms that I am not an adulterer."
Following the ruling, Choi announced plans to respond firmly to false rumors and defamation, vowing legal action against any future malicious claims or distortions.
He also shared updates on the related criminal case. When the allegations first surfaced, Choi filed charges against A for violating the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection.
In August of last year, the Seoul Eastern District Court fined A 3 million KRW during the appeals hearing. Failure to pay the fine would result in detention at a workhouse.
A specific audio recording appears to have influenced the guilty verdict. In it, A said, "If you sue, it usually costs 30–40 million won, but since he's a washed-up celebrity, I heard you can squeeze 100 million out of him."
The allegations began after A claimed on a YouTube broadcast in 2023 that an idol-turned-celebrity approached his wife. Choi immediately refuted the claim.
The legal dispute continued through multiple proceedings. In the first trial of A's divorce case, the court deemed Choi's meeting with the acquaintance as "improper conduct," but the appeals court overturned that decision and nullified the original ruling.
