Shim Eun-kyung is gaining international recognition with back-to-back honors on the global film festival circuit.
Her label Fanfare confirmed that the actress has been nominated for Best Actress at both the 38th Nikkan Sports Film Awards in Japan and the 36th Singapore International Film Festival for her performance in Travel and Days.
The Nikkan Sports Film Awards is a long-running Japanese ceremony established in 1988, while the Singapore International Film Festival is one of Asia's representative film festivals, first launched in 1987.
Travel and Days, directed by Sho Miyake, follows the quiet yet emotional journey of screenwriter Shinichi Tsutsumi (played by Shim Eun-kyung). Set against a snowy backdrop, the story captures how a brief stay at a countryside inn gently alters the course of her life.
The film has already swept major global festivals. It won the Golden Leopard, the top prize at the Locarno Film Festival, where the jury praised its deep exploration of human nature.
It has also been invited to several international festivals, including the 73rd San Sebastián International Film Festival, the 22nd Reykjavík International Film Festival, and the 33rd Hamburg Film Festival.
Travel and Days will be released in Korea on December 10.
