Distributor Showbox announced that The Man Who Lives with the King, directed by Jang Hang-jun, has confirmed its release for February 4, 2026, alongside the unveiling of its first trailer and still images.
The film is based on King Danjong, the sixth ruler of the Joseon Dynasty. It tells the story of the young deposed king in exile, the village chief who watches over him, and the villagers who share their lives with him.
A trusted ensemble cast comes together for the project. Yoo Hae-jin plays Eom Heung-do, the village chief of Gwangcheongol, while Park Ji-hoon portrays the young former king Yi Hong-wi. Jeon Mi-do takes on the role of the court lady Maehwa.
Yoo Ji-tae appears as Han Myeong-hoe, one of the most powerful figures of the era. Park Ji-hwan plays the magistrate of Yeongwol, Lee Jun-hyuk portrays Yi Hong-wi's uncle Grand Prince Geumseong, and Ahn Jae-hong stars as the village chief of Norugol.
The newly released trailer and stills spark curiosity about each character's narrative, highlighted by the line, "Cheongnyeongpo, 1457 — a story history tried to erase."
