Lay of EXO has issued an apology after being unable to attend the group's fan meeting on the day of the event.

On December 14, Lay shared a message on Chinese social media, explaining that he had to urgently return to Beijing to attend an important event held by the National Theatre of China.

He expressed sincere regret to fans and fellow members. Lay said he was deeply sorry to everyone who may have been inconvenienced by his absence and bowed his head in apology.

Lay was originally scheduled to appear at EXO's fan meeting, "EXO'Verse," which took place at Inspire Arena in Incheon. However, a last-minute change prevented his participation.

SM Entertainment stated that Lay was unable to attend due to unavoidable circumstances and asked for fans' understanding regarding the change in participating members.

While the agency did not disclose specific details, the National Theatre of China operates under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, suggesting the decision was unavoidable.

Meanwhile, EXO is preparing for the release of a new full-length album in the first quarter of next year.
