Park Chan-wook's film No Choice has moved one step closer to the Academy Awards.

On December 17, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) announced the shortlists in 12 categories for the 98th Academy Awards. No Choice, submitted as South Korea's official entry, was named to the International Feature Film shortlist.

The category selected 15 films from submissions by 86 countries and regions worldwide. No Choice will compete alongside titles such as Gukbo by Lee Sang-il (Japan), It Was Just an Accident by Jafar Panahi (France), The Voice of Hind by Kaouther Ben Hania (Tunisia), and Sentimental Value by Joachim Trier (Norway).

Other shortlisted films include Belen (Argentina), The Secret Agent (Brazil), Sound of Falling (Germany), Homebound (India), The President's Cake (Iraq), All That's Left of You (Jordan), Palestine 36, Sirat (Spain), Rape Shift (Switzerland), and Left-Handed Girl (Taiwan).

Meanwhile, the original song "Golden" from Netflix's KPop Demon Hunters, directed by Maggie Kang, was shortlisted in the Best Original Song category. The track joins contenders such as Wicked: For Good's "The Girl in the Bubble," Avatar: Fire and Ash's "Dream as One," F1: The Movie's "Drive," No Place Like Home, Tron: Ares's "As Alive as You Need Me to Be," and Sinners' "I Ride to You."

No Choice had already gained international attention earlier this awards season, earning Golden Globe nominations for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Foreign Language Film, and Best Actor for Lee Byung-hun. KPop Demon Hunters was also nominated at the Golden Globes for Best Animated Feature, Best Original Song, and Box Office Achievement.

At the Critics Choice Awards, No Choice received nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Foreign Language Film, while KPop Demon Hunters was recognized in the Animated Feature and Original Song ("Golden") categories.

The final Academy Award nominations will be announced on January 22, with the ceremony set to take place on March 15.
