Actor Yoon Shi-yoon takes on the role of Father Kim Dae-geon, delivering a performance expected to resonate across generations and religious boundaries.
On December 17, tvN announced that the drama Youth Kim Dae-geon will air as a three-part series, set to be released sequentially from December 24 to 26.
The series is a historical drama reimagined from the film Birth, which was originally released to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Father Kim Dae-geon's birth. Director Park Heung-sik serves as both writer and director, explaining that the drama incorporates even the elements that could not be fully explored in the film, with a more delicate approach to emotional immersion.
Youth Kim Dae-geon closely traces the emotional journey and historical backdrop of Father Kim Dae-geon's life. It portrays his youth, studies abroad in Macau, and his time imprisoned in Joseon, offering a deeper look into the formative experiences that shaped him.
The drama highlights his growth from an adventurous, intellectually curious young man into a figure who played multiple roles as an interpreter, geographer, and trader, standing at the forefront of Joseon's path toward modernization.
Yoon Shi-yoon portrays Kim Dae-geon as a global talent of the Joseon era, showcasing performances in five languages, including Chinese, Latin, French, and English. Veteran actors Ahn Sung-ki, Lee Moon-sik, Yoon Kyung-ho, Kim Kwang-kyu, Lee Kyung-young, Shin Jung-keun, Baek Ji-won, and Kang Mal-geum join the cast, adding depth as companions and supporters along Kim Dae-geon's journey.
Youth Kim Dae-geon will premiere on December 24 at 5:50 p.m. on tvN.
