Actress Moon So-ri has been appointed as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), stepping forward to raise awareness of the global food crisis.
The WFP Korea Office announced on December 17 that Moon So-ri was officially named a WFP Goodwill Ambassador. The appointment ceremony was held that morning at The Plaza Hotel in Seoul.
The World Food Programme is the world's largest humanitarian organization, operating in more than 120 countries and regions. It saves lives in emergencies and provides food assistance to people affected by conflict, disasters, and climate crises. In 2020, WFP was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
Moon shared her experience visiting WFP project sites in Kenya. Earlier this year, she began working with WFP and visited Kenya in October, where she observed food assistance efforts at the Kakuma Refugee Camp. She also reviewed long-term development and recovery programs in Nairobi and the Lodwar region.
Reflecting on the visit, Moon said that meeting refugees in Kenya helped her realize that food represents more than a single meal, but embodies hope, courage, and human connection. She added that witnessing refugees struggle to secure even the most basic meals due to funding shortages made her feel an urgent need for greater public attention.
"As a WFP Goodwill Ambassador, I want to help inform people about the reality of hunger and widely share the meaning of solidarity," she said.
Lee Hyun-ji, Director of the WFP Korea Office, praised Moon for her consistent interest in social issues, saying that welcoming her into the WFP family marks a meaningful step toward a world without hunger.
As a Goodwill Ambassador, Moon So-ri will take part in domestic and international campaigns and promotional activities, supporting efforts to raise awareness of food insecurity and encourage global participation and solidarity.
