Netflix's disaster film The Great Flood has surged to No.1 worldwide just one week after release.
According to Netflix's official site Netflix Tudum, the film ranked first overall in the Global Top 10 Movies chart, covering both English and non-English titles, for the tracking period from December 15 to 21.
The performance was exceptional. Within just three days of release, The Great Flood surpassed 27.9 million viewing hours, calculated by dividing total watch time by the film's runtime.
This marks the strongest opening ever for a Netflix original Korean film. By comparison, previous hits such as Badland Hunters opened in the 10-million-hour range, making The Great Flood's debut more than double that figure.
The film also entered the Top 10 in 93 countries and regions, claiming the No.1 spot in markets including Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Spain, Portugal, and Singapore.
Reactions, however, remain sharply divided. Some viewers criticize the sudden shift from a traditional disaster narrative to a science-fiction direction, calling it jarring, while others praise the bold genre turn as fresh and unexpected.
