SEVENTEEN's agency has confirmed that a malicious commenter has been referred to prosecutors, while a separate case involving the leak of confidential information resulted in a fine.
On December 29, PLEDIS Entertainment posted an update on Weverse outlining the status of its legal actions related to violations of artist rights. The agency shared progress on criminal complaints it filed earlier this year as part of a large-scale legal response against online defamation and related offenses.
Police determined that one suspect, identified as A, committed defamation by spreading false information and referred the case to the prosecution. A prosecutorial decision is expected soon. PLEDIS emphasized that it will not consider any settlements or leniency, stating that the distribution of falsehoods that damage an artist's reputation is an unforgivable crime.
Legal action is also underway against malicious accounts on X (formerly Twitter). A U.S. court accepted a request last month to disclose identifying information of the account operators. The agency said it will take strong measures as soon as identities are secured, reaffirming a firm and ongoing stance to protect artist rights.
PLEDIS additionally disclosed the outcome of a separate leak case. An individual identified as B had uploaded unreleased album and concert-related information about SEVENTEEN to anonymous online forums. The court found B guilty of leaking trade secrets, ruling that the posts caused harm to the company. A fine was recently imposed and finalized.
Beyond the current cases, PLEDIS stated it will continue pursuing legal accountability against malicious commenters and harmful social media operators through to the end.
Meanwhile, SEVENTEEN continues its activities. A new unit, DK X Seungkwan, is set to debut on January 12, and the group is currently in the midst of its world tour.
