Director Yeon Sang-ho unveils a new cinematic world connected to Train to Busan and Peninsula, bringing together Jun Ji-hyun, Koo Kyo-hwan, Ji Chang-wook, Shin Hyun-been, Kim Shin-rok, and Go Soo.
The film Colony, directed by Yeon Sang-ho, has confirmed its release for this year. On January 6, the production team unveiled a 30-second teaser trailer, opening with a tense close-up of Jun Ji-hyun as Kwon Se-jeong.
Jun Ji-hyun plays a biotech researcher trapped inside a building with infected individuals. She hints at the birth of a new species, saying the infected first crawled on all fours, then began walking upright, appearing to evolve.
The building descends into a blood-soaked chaos. Ji Chang-wook portrays Choi Hyun-seok, a security officer who throws himself into danger to fight the infected. Shin Hyun-been as Gong Seol-hee, Kim Shin-rok as Choi Hyun-hee, and Go Soo as Han Gyu-seong are shown frozen in fear amid the confusion.
In stark contrast, Koo Kyo-hwan's Seo Young-cheol remains eerily calm. Whistling as he watches the situation unfold, he says, "This is about pushing humans to the next stage," adding an unsettling layer of suspense with his cryptic demeanor.
Colony centers on survivors trapped inside a sealed building following an unidentified outbreak, as they struggle against infected beings that continue to evolve in unpredictable ways.
The film marks Jun Ji-hyun's return to the big screen for the first time in 11 years since Assassination. Both Jun Ji-hyun and Ji Chang-wook are collaborating with Yeon Sang-ho for the first time, with Ji Chang-wook also making his debut in the zombie genre. Koo Kyo-hwan reunites with the director following Peninsula and Monstrous.
