Y.ONE Entertainment has officially ended its exclusive contract with actress Hwang Jung-eum.
On January 8, Y.ONE stated, "We notified Hwang Jung-eum of the termination of her exclusive contract on November 27 last year. She accepted the notice, and the contract between both parties has already been concluded."
Hwang Jung-eum signed with Y.ONE in July 2023. In February the following year, she publicly accused her ex-husband Lee Young-don of infidelity, after which she became embroiled in a series of controversies.
She mistakenly identified a private individual as Lee Young-don's alleged affair partner and posted accusations on Instagram. The individual filed a defamation lawsuit, which was later withdrawn, bringing the incident to a close.
Further legal issues followed. In October last year, Hwang Jung-eum was sentenced to two years in prison with four years of probation for violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes, including embezzlement.
She was found to have embezzled approximately KRW 4.3 billion from her personal corporation, using the funds for cryptocurrency investments and personal purchases. During the trial, she fully repaid the embezzled amount.
Additional controversy arose on January 8, when reports claimed that Hwang Jung-eum had been operating "Hunminjeongeum Entertainment" without registering it as a licensed entertainment management agency.
Regarding this matter, Y.ONE stated, "We have no involvement or responsibility whatsoever regarding Hwang Jung-eum's future activities, personal matters, or related issues," adding, "We will not issue any further statements or take any additional action concerning this case."
