BoA is officially ending her long-running partnership with SM Entertainment.
On January 12, SM Entertainment announced that after extensive discussions with BoA, the two sides mutually agreed to conclude their exclusive contract as of December 31, 2025, marking the end of a 25-year journey together.
BoA debuted in 2000 at the age of 13 and went on to achieve major success in Korea, Japan, and across Asia. SM described her as "an icon of overseas expansion who pioneered the Korean Wave across Asia" and "the Star of Asia," adding that she became a role model for countless K-pop artists who followed.

"BoA's path as a pioneer and trailblazer was made brilliant by her relentless effort and passion," the company said. "It was a true honor for us to walk alongside her remarkable steps. For 25 years, BoA was undeniably SM's pride, strength, and symbol."
SM also expressed continued support for her future endeavors, asking for ongoing love and interest in the new chapter ahead. The company added that it will cheer on not only the artist BoA, but also Kwon BoA as an individual, wishing her genuine happiness.

To commemorate the milestone, SM released a tribute video on BoA's official channels, capturing moments from her childhood to the present and highlighting her enduring passion. The video was set to her iconic song "Only One," deepening the sense of reflection.
BoA shared her own message via Instagram, writing, "As much as we gave and received without holding back, I leave without regret. Thank you for the time we shared. I will continue to support the ever-shining SM Entertainment. Thank you."

The end of the contract closes one of the longest and most influential artist–agency partnerships in K-pop history, while opening a new chapter for BoA's future.
