Global media is turning its attention to BTS and their upcoming comeback.
BTS will return on March 20 with their fifth full-length album, Arirang. Immediately after the album title was revealed on January 16, overseas outlets focused on the cultural and emotional symbolism behind the name and why the group chose it for this release.
Forbes noted that BTS has consistently placed Korean identity at the center of its music, describing Arirang as a symbol of the group's return to its roots after a period of hiatus. The outlet added that for BTS—long seen as a bridge between Korean culture and global audiences—the album title represents both a homecoming and a continuation of their mission to introduce Korean culture to the world.
Forbes also highlighted Arirang as an "open song," one that anyone can add lyrics to and reinterpret, linking its themes of creativity, empathy, and freedom of expression to BTS's long-standing artistic philosophy.
L'Officiel USA emphasized the song's historical significance, citing UNESCO in noting that Arirang is a Korean folk song with more than 600 years of history. The publication pointed to "reunion" as a central theme, interpreting the album title as a narrative of reconnecting with fans after a long separation.
U.S. outlet Consequence described Arirang as a core symbol of Korean culture and identity, explaining that its lyrics revolve around separation, longing, and the hope of reunion—making it a fitting title for BTS's first new album in nearly four years.
Additional international media, including Uproxx, Genius, and CNA Lifestyle, also examined the emotional depth of Arirang and the meaning behind its selection as the album's title.
BTS's fifth full-length album Arirang explores themes of identity, longing, and deep love through 14 tracks. Following the release, the group will launch a large-scale world tour beginning April 9 in Goyang.
