The film If We Were has crossed the 2 million admissions mark, according to the Korean Film Council's integrated box office system.
Over the weekend (January 23–25), the film drew 254,300 moviegoers, bringing its cumulative total to 2,001,034. It is the first romance film in nearly seven years to reach 2 million admissions, following Love Reset in 2019 starring Gong Hyo-jin and Kim Rae-won.
The milestone also places it ahead of Decision to Leave, which recorded 1.91 million admissions and sparked an "Nth viewing" trend. That title went on to earn Best Director honors at the 75th Cannes Film Festival.
Word of mouth has driven the momentum. Audiences connected with the grounded romance between Jung-won (played by Moon Ga-young) and Eun-ho (played by Koo Kyo-hwan), praising its portrayal of young adults' anxieties and emotional dilemmas in uncertain times.
If We Were is a remake of the Chinese film Us and Them, reimagined as the story of former lovers who unexpectedly reunite after ten years and revisit their shared past.
Meanwhile, Band of the Gods ranked second at the weekend box office with 155,282 admissions, followed by Avatar: Fire and Ash in third (110,000) and Project Y in fourth (60,000).
