Anticipation is building in Korean cinemas as several major films climb the presales charts ahead of release.
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing system, Wangsanim (The King and the Man Who Lives) directed by Jang Hang-jun ranked No.1 in presales. As of February 3, the film recorded 125,420 advance tickets sold.
Set during the Joseon Dynasty, the story centers on the young deposed King Danjong, exiled after losing his throne, and the village chief and residents who protect and care for him. Following preview screenings, buzz has intensified, with strong praise for the performances of Yoo Hae-jin, Park Ji-hoon, Yoo Ji-tae, and Jeon Mi-do. Viewers highlighted Park Ji-hoon's expressive gaze as a key factor driving immersion.
Following closely at No.2 is Humint, directed by Ryoo Seung-wan, with 99,816 tickets sold ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday. Known for its high-intensity action and espionage-driven suspense, the film serves as the final installment of Ryoo's overseas-location trilogy, following The Berlin File and Escape from Mogadishu.
At No.3, Number One directed by Kim Tae-yong has drawn 40,320 advance reservations. The film delivers an emotional narrative built around the warmth of a mother's cooking and a poignant premise in which a character can see the remaining time of life, resonating strongly with early audiences.
