Moon Ga-young has made an additional donation from the proceeds of her essay collection PATA.
On February 5, international relief organization Cointree announced that Moon donated an additional KRW 50 million from PATA's profits. This brings her total donations related to the book to KRW 150 million.
Previously, Moon donated KRW 100 million from PATA's earnings to Ewha Medical Center last year. She later directed the additional profits to Cointree, personally discussing how the funds would be used.
According to Cointree, the donation supported community projects in the slum areas of Tulum, Mexico, delivering tangible improvements in women's self-reliance initiatives and children's medical environments.
The funds were also allocated to building restrooms at schools with poor sanitation and establishing emergency medical systems for children, creating safeguards against preventable diseases.
Cointree CEO Han Young-jun said, "Moon Ga-young is a leader-type donor who considers both how contributions are used and their outcomes. Her support has helped change a woman's life and build a structure that saves children."
Moon Ga-young released her first essay collection PATA in March 2024. The book, which records her candid reflections as she confronts herself and the world, became a steady seller shortly after publication.
