The Man Who Lived with the King is dominating theaters during the Lunar New Year holiday, surpassing 2 million admissions.
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing network, The Man Who Lived with the King recorded 2,322,645 cumulative viewers as of 2:16 p.m. on February 16.
The film opened at No.1 at the box office upon release. It surpassed 1 million moviegoers within five days and crossed the 2 million mark in just 12 days, maintaining strong momentum.
A Story of Exile and Unlikely Brotherhood
The Man Who Lived with the King, directed by Jang Hang Jun, is set in Cheongnyeongpo in 1457. The story follows a village chief who voluntarily chooses exile for the revival of his village and a young deposed king who is sent into exile after losing the throne.
The film focuses on King Danjong, played by Park Ji Hoon, as he plots a counterattack from exile. It also highlights the special friendship that develops between him and village chief Eom Heung Do, portrayed by Yoo Hae Jin.
Audiences have praised the nuanced performances of Park Ji Hoon and Yoo Hae Jin, noting how they portrayed Danjong's life with both humor and sorrow, driving strong word-of-mouth buzz.
Meanwhile, Humint ranked No.2 at the box office with 703,841 viewers, followed by Number One in third place with 117,151 admissions.
