Actor and Super Junior member Choi Siwon has taken legal action amid controversy over alleged political messaging, with SM Entertainment confirming the submission of a criminal complaint and a zero-tolerance stance.
Choi Siwon posted the phrase "Bului Pilmang, Tobung Wahae (不義必亡, 土崩瓦解)" on social media on February 19. The expression translates to "Injustice will inevitably perish" and "Collapse like crumbling earth and shattered tiles," implying that what is unjust will ultimately fall apart.
The post came shortly after the first trial verdict involving former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in a case related to insurrection charges. The timing sparked online debate, with varying interpretations of the message.
SM Entertainment Submits Complaint
SM Entertainment announced via its official reporting channel "KWANGYA 119" that it has identified repeated malicious posts targeting Choi Siwon. The agency stated it recognizes the seriousness of the situation and has formally filed a complaint with investigative authorities.
The company added that it is securing evidence against individuals who create and distribute false information, as well as those posting mocking or defamatory content. Legal procedures will be expanded accordingly.
"No Settlement or Leniency"
SM emphasized that there will be no settlement or leniency. The agency declared it will respond firmly with both civil and criminal legal measures to protect the artist's rights and urged the public to refrain from involvement in defamatory actions.
