Netflix animated film KPop Demon Hunters dominated the 53rd Annie Awards, securing a total of 10 trophies, including the top honor for Best Feature.

The ceremony, hosted by the International Animated Film Association (ASIFA), took place in Los Angeles on February 22 (KST). KPop Demon Hunters emerged as the most-awarded title of the night, winning in major categories such as Best Feature, Visual Effects, Character Design, Music, Production Design, and Voice Acting.

Oscar Momentum Builds

The sweeping victory has heightened expectations for the upcoming Academy Awards. The Annie Awards are widely regarded as the "Oscars of Animation," often serving as a strong indicator of Oscar success.

Historically, 14 out of 23 Annie Best Feature winners have gone on to claim the Academy Award. However, last year's The Wild Robot failed to convert its Annie momentum into an Oscar win.

Global Impact and Record-Breaking Run

Since its release in June last year, KPop Demon Hunters has achieved global success. It set a new record as Netflix's most-watched animated film of all time.

The film has also collected major accolades across multiple award ceremonies, winning two trophies at the Critics Choice Awards and the Golden Globe Awards, along with Best Original Soundtrack at the Grammy Awards.

The 98th Academy Awards will be held on March 15. KPop Demon Hunters is nominated in two categories, further solidifying its position as a frontrunner in this awards season.
