The box office momentum is accelerating. King and the Living Man, directed by Jang Hang-jun, drew 2,479,973 moviegoers during Korea's Independence Movement Day holiday alone, pushing the film to the brink of the coveted 10 million milestone.
According to the Korean Film Council's Integrated Computer Network, the film attracted audiences from February 27 to March 2, recording explosive holiday turnout. Its cumulative total has now reached 9,213,408 admissions.
As of March 3, the film holds a 55.2% reservation rate with approximately 120,000 tickets pre-booked, making a 10 million breakthrough highly likely within the week.
King and the Living Man centers on King Danjong, the sixth king of the Joseon Dynasty. The story follows the exiled young monarch and the village chief who protects him, alongside the people of Gwangcheongol.
Meanwhile, HUMINT recorded 166,135 admissions during the same period, while Hoppers followed with 51,600 viewers.
