Endgame Investigation (original title: Field Investigation) is finally heading to theaters seven years after filming wrapped. Distributor Ace Maker Movie Works confirmed on March 3 that the crime thriller will premiere on April 2.
The film is based on a real-life case and follows a demoted detective transferred to a rural town. Teaming up with a rookie officer, he embarks on a relentless investigation that spirals into a full-scale pursuit.
Release was indefinitely postponed due to controversy surrounding lead actor Bae Sung-woo. In November 2020, he was charged with drunk driving, leading to his departure from ongoing drama projects at the time.
Directed by Park Cheol-hwan, Endgame Investigation marks his feature film directorial debut. He previously demonstrated strong genre sensibilities in dramas such as Grid and Dominant Species.
The cast also includes Jung Ga-ram, Esom, Jo Han-chul, and Yoon Kyung-ho. Jung Ga-ram plays the junior detective who forms a re-investigation duo with Bae Sung-woo's character.
Endgame Investigation opens in theaters on April 2.
