Park Chan Wook has achieved a career milestone as his latest film "No Other Choice" becomes his highest-grossing title in North America.
According to Box Office Mojo, the film surpassed $10 million in cumulative North American revenue on February 28, marking the first time a Park Chan Wook film has crossed the $10 million threshold in the U.S. market.
The figure surpasses his previous North American benchmark set by "Oldboy" (2003), which earned approximately $2.4 million during its theatrical run.
CJ ENM noted that amid the high entry barriers faced by non-English-language films in North America, the result demonstrates the expanding global reach of Korean cinema.
The company added that the film has attracted not only established arthouse audiences but also general moviegoers, with organic word-of-mouth reviews supporting its extended theatrical run.
"No Other Choice" is a black comedy centered on an unemployed man who launches his own unconventional "re-employment war" to protect both his family and his home.
Following its global release, the film continues to hold a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics have responded positively, with Film Threat calling it "compelling to the very end," while Original Cin described it as a work that juxtaposes reality and absurdity through meticulous cinematography, persuasive performances, and contrasting locations.
