Actors Byun Woo-seok and Shin Hyun-joon have officially joined the Korea Music Performers' Association (FKMP).
The association announced their membership on March 4, noting that songs performed by actors are increasingly recognized as independent music content, strengthening awareness of actors as music performers.
Shin Hyun-joon released If I Hold You in My Arms 2025 last year with actor Jung Jun-ho. Byun Woo-seok also sang an OST himself while portraying a top star in the tvN drama Lovely Runner.
Actors Expanding Into Music Performance Rights
Several other actors have also joined the organization, including Chu Young-woo, Lee Sun-bin, Jung Hae-in, Kim Min-seok, and Shin Si-a. According to the association, their participation in songs within dramas and films prompted their membership.
Kim Seung-min, executive director of the association, emphasized the significance of the shift. "Songs performed by actors are not simply supplementary elements but rights that deserve protection. This clearly reflects changes in the industry environment."
The association manages rights for OST tracks, inserted songs, and theme music performed by its members. It also helps performers receive neighboring rights royalties and broadcast compensation on a regular basis.
