The Korean film The Man Who Lives with the King continues its unstoppable box office run.
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing network, the film drew 1,725,767 viewers over the weekend (March 6–8). Its cumulative audience has now reached 11,503,745.
The film climbed to No.19 on the all-time Korean box office chart. It surpassed Haeundae (11.45 million) and The Roundup 4 (11.50 million). It is now closing in on Train to Busan, which recorded 11.56 million admissions.
A Historical Story That Resonated with Audiences
The Man Who Lives with the King is based on King Danjong, the sixth monarch of the Joseon Dynasty. The story follows the young deposed king in exile, along with a village headman and the residents of Gwangcheongol who care for him. The film portrays their lives with emotional depth.
Film Success Boosts Tourism
The movie's popularity has also sparked interest in its filming locations. Tourist visits have surged to sites associated with Danjong's exile, including Cheongnyeongpo in Yeongwol.
According to Yeongwol County, more than 110,000 visitors have already traveled to the site this year.
The film's popularity is also expected to energize local cultural events. Director Jang Hang-jun is scheduled to participate in the opening ceremony of the 59th Danjong Cultural Festival, drawing additional attention.
Meanwhile, the animated film Hoppers ranked No.2 at the weekend box office with 233,823 viewers, while Humint placed third with 43,832 admissions.
