The Korean film The Man Who Lives with the King is continuing its global momentum, expanding its reach beyond Korea and into North America.
According to distributor Showbox, the film opened on February 13 (KST) across 50 cities in the United States and Canada. As of March 9, it had earned approximately $1.79 million (about 2.66 billion KRW) in its second week of release.
Expanding Theater Screenings in North America
The box office performance has already surpassed the North American results of Korean hits such as 12.12: The Day and Extreme Job.
Buoyed by the strong reception, the film is expanding its theatrical run. An additional 125 screens have been added, bringing the total to roughly 150 theaters.
North American distributor JBG Pictures USA stated that screenings are being expanded weekly due to growing demand. The company is also focusing on securing theaters in regions with large Korean communities.
Record-Breaking Success in Korea
The film's domestic momentum remains strong as well. On March 11, its 36th day in Korean theaters, the movie surpassed 12 million admissions.
This achievement exceeds the total audience record of the 2024 hit Exhuma, which drew 11.91 million viewers.
Directed by Jang Hang-jun, The Man Who Lives with the King tells the story of a young former king who forms unexpected friendships with a village chief and local residents after being exiled from the throne. The film stars Yoo Hae-jin and Park Ji-hoon.
