"Not Over Until It's Over"…Jang Hang-jun's Rebound Set for Re-Release
by. ymchoi

Director Jang Hang-jun's sports drama Rebound is returning to theaters amid the ongoing success of King and the Man.

Distributor Barunson E&A announced that Rebound, directed by Jang Hang-jun, will be re-released on April 3 to mark the film's third anniversary.

Originally released in 2023, Rebound tells the remarkable story of an underdog high-school basketball team competing in the National Middle and High School Basketball Tournament. The film portrays the eight-day journey in which the weakest team creates a near-miraculous run.

The story resonated with audiences for its real-life inspiration. It is based on the true story of the Busan Jungang High School basketball team that drew national attention in 2012, delivering an uplifting sports narrative.

Despite the strong story, the film's box-office performance fell short of expectations. It debuted at No. 2 on the box office chart but did not reach its break-even point of 1.6 million admissions, finishing with about 700,000 viewers.

The re-release offers the film another chance to meet audiences. Since its initial run, Jang Hang-jun has risen as a commercially successful director, while actors Ahn Jae-hong and Jung Jin-woon have achieved major box-office recognition.

A representative said the real-life story that created an unscripted drama will once again move audiences this spring.

Rebound will return to theaters nationwide starting April 3.
