"BTSnomics Has Begun" — BTS Comeback Drives Massive 'ARIRANG' Economic Impact
by. ymchoi

BTS is signaling a powerful return, launching their first full-group comeback in nearly four years at the heart of Seoul.

Netflix will livestream the comeback performance to 190 countries worldwide, while the Seoul Metropolitan Government transforms the city into a massive concert venue. Major landmarks will be illuminated, and synchronized fountain shows will accompany the music.

The group's return is expected to generate significant economic impact. On the day of the performance, a surge of visitors is projected to boost local consumption across multiple sectors.

According to Bloomberg, potential spending across tourism, aviation, accommodation, food and beverage, and merchandise could reach approximately $177 million (around 266.3 billion KRW). Some analysts suggest this could rival the scale of "Swiftonomics," driven by Taylor Swift's "Eras Tour."

The term "BTSnomics" is now being used to describe the phenomenon. IBK Investment & Securities estimates BTS's comeback-related revenue contribution at approximately 2.9 trillion KRW.

Data from Hotels.com shows that within 48 hours of BTS announcing their tour in January, international travel searches to Seoul surged by 155% week-over-week. Busan saw an even sharper spike of 2,375% ahead of its June concert dates.

Hotel prices in the Gwanghwamun area have also surged. A five-star hotel reportedly sold out early for the concert date, with deluxe king rooms priced at approximately 1.07 million KRW—over 50% higher than standard rates. A three-star hotel in the area also sold out standard rooms, with deluxe options reaching around 490,000 KRW.

In response, government authorities have begun crackdowns on excessive pricing. Inspection teams conducted surprise checks on 83 accommodation facilities near Gwanghwamun, with 18 businesses flagged for violations.

BTS will further expand this economic momentum through their upcoming world tour. Starting April 9, 11, and 12 at Goyang Stadium, the group will tour 23 countries and 34 cities under the "ARIRANG" banner, holding a total of 82 shows.

This marks one of the largest tours in K-pop history and their first stadium tour in four years since November 2021. The tour is expected to draw approximately 5.22 million attendees worldwide.

Bloomberg projects the tour could generate over $800 million (around 1.2 trillion KRW) in revenue, with further expansion anticipated if additional Japan and Middle East dates are added next year.

Analysts note that BTS's comeback goes beyond individual success, potentially reshaping the entire K-pop industry structure and expanding its global growth trajectory.

Meanwhile, BTS will release their fifth full-length album "ARIRANG" on March 20 at 1 PM (KST). Following their March 21 comeback performance, they will head to the United States to appear as a full group on NBC's "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" on March 25–26, marking their first such appearance in approximately four years and eight months.
