The Baeksang Arts Awards will return on May 8, introducing a new musical category.
The organizing committee announced on March 24 that the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards will be held at COEX in Gangnam, Seoul. Luxury brand Gucci will participate as a partner for the fourth consecutive year.
Expanding into a Comprehensive Arts Award
This year marks the launch of a musical category, joining existing fields such as television, film, and theater. Organizers stated that the addition aims to elevate the ceremony into a truly comprehensive arts award.
The theme for this year is "The Stage," encompassing not only physical stages but also screens across broadcasting, film, theater, and musicals.
Eligibility and Evaluation Criteria
Eligible works include content released between April 1 of last year and March 31 this year across terrestrial TV, cable, OTT, and web platforms, as well as Korean feature films, plays, and musicals released during the same period.
For the television category, only works with at least four episodes or those that have aired more than one-third of their run within the eligibility window will be considered. New actor nominees in TV and film must have appeared in three or fewer leading or supporting roles.
The Best New Director award in film applies to directors who debuted with a feature-length film during the eligibility period. The "Gucci Impact Award" will honor works that expand audience awareness through meaningful social messages.
New Musical Awards and Selection Process
In the theater category, awards include Best Young Theater Artist, Acting Awards, and the Baeksang Theater Award. The newly established musical category will present awards across three divisions: Best Production, Best Creative Work, and Acting.
For the TV and film categories, a preliminary survey involving 30 industry professionals will be conducted prior to final nominations. The results will be referenced in the final judging process.
