Lee Byung Hun and Han Ji Min are set to headline a new espionage drama together.
Disney+ original series Koreans confirmed its cast on March 25, featuring Lee Byung Hun, Han Ji Min, and Lee Hee Joon.
Koreans is a reinterpretation of the American series The Americans, set in a 1990s Seoul apartment complex. The story promises intense, edge-of-your-seat tension.
Undercover Lives in Seoul
Lee Byung Hun takes on the role of Kim Myung Jun, an elite North Korean spy who has been living in South Korea while hiding his identity. The character has been away from his homeland for over a decade.
Han Ji Min plays Yoon Hwa Kyung, also a North Korean spy and Kim Myung Jun's wife. The two pose as a married couple while settling into life in South Korea, with Han Ji Min expected to portray the character's emotional depth with her signature nuance.
Lee Hee Joon joins as Cha Gi Seok, a counterintelligence detective and former violent crimes investigator. After moving in next door to the couple, his presence heightens the tension of the story.
Top-Tier Production Team
The series is directed by Ahn Gil Ho, known for his detailed storytelling in dramas such as The Glory, Happiness, and Memories of the Alhambra.
Writer Park Eun Kyo, recognized for works like Made in Korea, The Silent Sea, and the film Mother, is in charge of the script, bringing a track record of layered narratives and emotional depth.
The production team stated, "The psychological tension and relational conflicts portrayed by these three actors will deliver a fresh kind of immersion, distinct from conventional espionage dramas."
Koreans is scheduled to premiere exclusively on Disney+ next year.
