Jang Dong-yoon is set to return to the Korean film scene—this time as a director.
Roadshow Plus announced on March 26 that Nuruk, Jang's first feature-length directorial project, will be released exclusively at Megabox on April 15.
A Story Rooted in Tradition
Nuruk follows the daughter of a locally renowned brewery who notices a change in the taste of makgeolli and sets out to find the missing fermentation starter, "nuruk."
The film blends a coming-of-age narrative with traditional Korean brewing culture, offering a unique premise centered on a high school girl and makgeolli.
From Actor to Director
Jang Dong-yoon takes the director's chair for the project. He previously made his directing debut with the short film Be My Ear in 2023, earning attention for his fresh storytelling style.
The film has already been invited to several domestic festivals, including the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival, Seoul Independent Film Festival, and Ulju Mountain Film Festival.
Teaser Poster Revealed
The teaser poster has also been unveiled, featuring the protagonist Dasul (played by Kim Seung-yoon) alongside the line, "Can I find my world again?"
A representative commented, "The fresh combination of a high school girl and makgeolli is expected to spark curiosity among audiences."
Nuruk will be available in theaters starting April 15, exclusively at Megabox.
