Kim Taeyoung of actor group NewName continues his rise with a new drama role.
He has been cast in SBS's upcoming series Awakening, an exorcism-themed drama. The story follows a priest who risks everything to save students at Seongryeong High School, which has become a playground for evil spirits amid an obsession with academic success.
A Dark Transformation in Awakening
Lee Jun Hyuk will lead the series as Father Antonio, with Yoon Se Ah also confirmed in the lineup.
Kim Taeyoung takes on the role of Jang Sihoon, the elite "perfect student" of Seongryeong High. He is the grandson of a conglomerate chairman and the second son of a major resort and hotel group president.
With aristocratic visuals and a calm demeanor, his character captivates fellow students. However, in Awakening, he is expected to reveal a more intellectual and mysterious side, playing a key role in amplifying the drama's occult atmosphere.
From Rookie to Rising Star
Kim Taeyoung previously appeared in the MBC drama In the Season of Your Radiance, where he played a high school baseball player and gained attention as a fresh first-love icon.
Despite it being his debut project, he impressed with stable acting and strong character portrayal. This time, he is set to showcase a completely different image, marking a significant step in his acting trajectory.
Meanwhile, NewName—consisting of Kim Jun, Kim Taeyoung, Woo Hyun Jun, and Won Gyubin—has been drawing attention even before debut, appearing in fashion magazine editorials and receiving official invitations to Paris Fashion Week.
Other members are also expanding their careers. Won Gyubin gained global attention through Cheongdam International High School 2, while Woo Hyun Jun appeared in KBS2's Last Summer.
Awakening is currently in production and is scheduled to premiere next year.
