Actor Hyun Bin will take part in activities for national security.
The National Intelligence Service stated on April 7, "Hyun Bin has been appointed as an honorary counterintelligence agent." It is intended to inform the concept and importance of counterintelligence following the revision of espionage laws.
Counterintelligence refers to activities that check and block foreign intelligence activities that go against national security and national interest. After the law revision, the scope expanded from North Korea to foreign countries.
Hyun Bin previously played a National Intelligence Service agent in the 2023 film 'The Point Men.' With this appointment, he is expected to help widely inform the meaning of counterintelligence.
The National Intelligence Service said, "Recently, the importance of counterintelligence is increasing due to advanced technology and leakage of defense industry secrets. We will meet public expectations together with Hyun Bin."
Meanwhile, Hyun Bin appeared in the Disney+ series 'Made in Korea,' released in December last year.
