Singer-actor Cha Eun-woo has publicly addressed his tax controversy, confirming that he has fully paid the imposed tax penalty.
On April 8, Cha Eun-woo shared an official statement via his social media. He stated that he respects the procedures and conclusions of the National Tax Service and has completed full payment of all related taxes to prevent further confusion.
He emphasized accountability, noting that he takes the matter seriously in light of the support he has received from fans. "I will not avoid responsibility," he said, adding a direct apology for the disappointment caused.
Corporate Structure Under Scrutiny
Cha Eun-woo also explained the background behind establishing a personal corporation. He said the decision was made during a period of uncertainty in his career to ensure stability in his activities. However, he acknowledged that there were aspects he failed to review thoroughly.
The controversy stems from a management contract between his agency Fantagio and a family-owned corporation established by his mother. Authorities determined that this structure may have been used to apply lower corporate tax rates (10–20%) instead of higher personal income tax rates (up to 45%).
Full Payment and Reflection
Following an intensive tax investigation conducted in the first half of last year, the National Tax Service imposed an additional tax of approximately ₩20 billion (200억 원). The issue became public in January, sparking widespread debate.
Cha Eun-woo concluded his statement by taking full personal responsibility, clarifying that neither his family nor his company should be blamed. He pledged to reassess his actions and manage all future activities with greater care and stricter standards.
