Salmokji has claimed the No. 1 spot at the box office during its opening weekend, delivering the highest score among recent Korean horror films.
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing system, Salmokji drew 536,454 moviegoers over the weekend (April 10–12). Its cumulative audience has reached 724,039.
This marks the strongest performance for a horror film since Metamorphosis, which recorded 570,000 admissions. It also significantly surpassed the opening weekend score of The Medium, which attracted 300,000 viewers in 2021.
With its steady momentum, the film is approaching profitability. Its break-even point (BEP) is estimated at around 800,000 admissions, making it highly likely to surpass that threshold within the week.
Salmokji is set around a mysterious reservoir of the same name. The story follows a filming crew that encounters something unknown lurking beneath the deep water.
Kim Hye-yoon stars as PD Han Soo-in, who experiences a series of unexplained events during a business trip. Lee Jong-won plays Ki-tae, her former lover, marking his debut as a lead actor on the big screen.
Meanwhile, Project Hail Mary ranked No. 2 at the weekend box office with 274,733 admissions, followed by The King's Man with 175,342 viewers.
